Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) Initiative (2015-2020)

Advance notice of what can be expected ahead of the first annual call for proposals under the Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) Initiative (2015-2020) which is expected to be launched by Christmas, or January at the latest.

Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) Initiative (2015-2020)

The programme amounting to €371 million funded by the European Commission is, in large part, a response to a perceived traditional lack of risk-taking in EU funding of issues with an urban dimension. As a result successful projects will need to demonstrate a very definite sense of genuine experimentation by investigating ground-breaking solutions to the major social, economic, environmental or demographic challenges facing European cities.

The themes of the fund will reflect the emerging ‘EU Urban Agenda’ policy to better enable cities to assume a role in developing and putting EU policies, which more properly reflect urban realities, into practice on the ground.

EU Urban Agenda

The first call will focus on 4 particular Urban Agenda topics:
• Energy transition
• Urban poverty – deprived neighbourhoods
• Investment in the integration of migrants and refugees
• Jobs and skills in the local economy.

Bids should focus on a particular theme, although the project should also have a degree of integrated thinking by reference to other issues.
