    ENERGY POVERTY TECHNICAL WORKSHOP 23rd & 24th MARCH 2022

    The Southern Regional Assembly in conjunction with 3 Counties Energy Agency hosted the EMPOWER Energy Poverty Technical Workshop on the 23rd and 24th of March 2022. 

    It was an opportunity to hear from the Energy Poverty Advisory Hub in Brussels on energy poverty in Europe and then from Dr Niall Dunphy from UCC on energy poverty in Ireland and from Eileen O’Connor from the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communication on the Warmth & Wellbeing Scheme in Ireland. 

    This was followed by Irish and European initiatives to identify, reduce and undertake behaviour change programmes to address the issue of energy poverty.

    EMPOWER Technical Workshop Full Presentation

    Recording above of opening of the event by Enda Hogan, Assistant Direction of the Southern Regional Assembly followed by a presentation from Dora Biondani of the Energy Poverty Advisory Hub in Brussels on the extent of energy poverty in Europe and how they can support local actions. Dr Niall Dunphy from University College Cork provided an outline of the difficulties of defining energy poverty and the extent of energy poverty in Ireland and this was followed by a presentation from Eileen O’Connor from the Department of Environment, Climate and Communication on the Warmth and Wellbeing Scheme.  

    Recording above of the Build Upon 2 energy poverty identification good practice from Brian Cassidy from Cork City Council followed by how Energy Cloud in helping to reduce energy poverty by Derek Roddy of Energy Cloud and Climote Ireland.  Sergio Gatteschi from Italy provided a presentation on the Living Consciously Energy Poverty Behaviour Change good practice followed by the Worthy Winter energy poverty reduction good practice from Sonia Sotero from Spain.  The first day of the event was closed by a presentation and demonstration of the Act 4 Eco free energy poverty behaviour change programme by Dr Wendy Rowan and Dr Stephen McCarthy from University College Cork and Sotiris Papadelis from HEBES Intelligence, Greece.  

    Recording above of the Citizens Energy Advice good practice to assist in reducing energy poverty by Adrijana Copot from Slovenia followed by a presentation from Żaneta Latarowska from Poland on the Smart Energy Invent good practice to assist in the identification of energy poverty.  Simone Maggiore from Italy presented the Energia su Misura energy poverty behaviour change good practice followed by Xavier Dubuisson presentation on RetroKit Planning Toolkit that can be used by Local Authorities to identify energy poverty.  The event was then closed by Rose Power from the Southern Regional Assembly and Colin Simpson from 3 Counties Energy Agency providing some key insights and takeaways from the event.
