Southern Regional Assembly elects Cathaoirleach for 2018 term
At the meeting of the Southern Regional Assembly held on Friday, 9th February 2018 in Waterford City, Cllr. Larry O’Brien was elected Cathaoirleach for the forthcoming year. Cllr. O’Brien is the first Wexford member to be elected to this position.
Cllr. Larry O’Brien represents Wexford County Council on the Southern Regional Assembly. Cllr. O’Brien was elected to Wexford County Council in 1991, where he served as Cathaoirleach of the Council on two occasions in 2007 and 2009. He is currently the Chairperson of the Roads Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) in Wexford County Council.
Cllr. O’Brien is a former member of the South-East Regional Authority where he also served as Cathaoirleach during his time with the Authority and is currently a member of the Southern Regional Assembly since its establishment in 2015.
As a full-time public representative, Cllr. O’Brien is a member of the Fianna Gael party.
Cllr. O’Brien has a keen interest in G.A.A. and Motor Sport and he is married with one daughter and two sons.
Cllr. O’Brien stated that “he is looking forward to his term as Cathaoirleach of the Southern Regional Assembly, as it is a particularly important time for the Assemblies in developing the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategies for the Southern Region and he is looking forward to driving the Assembly forward in this process, with the help and co-operation of his colleagues on the Assembly”.
